Azure Reserved Instances

Introduction

AppXite Platform initially has supported semi-automated way to order "Reserved Instances" which included Support team. This article focuses on the review of purchasing and editing of the automated NCE Reserved Instances.

In this article:

Purchase flow - New order

WARNING! All steps in the purchase flow described below are mandatory! Otherwise, order could fail. All steps in the purchase flow described below are mandatory! Please ensure that you see Catalog Item Id field with valid value as described in step 7. Otherwise, order will fail.

 

1. Select product and offer from Catalog and go to order configuration

2. Select "Tenant". Platform will automatically check whether Tenant has active Azure Plan subscription.

NOTE! You might need to click on dropdown to load response. If it does not exist, then you need to find Azure Plan offer and order it.

3. Next step is to confirm that Azure Plan will be registered for RI purchases.

NOTE! If registration fails, please retry. If issue is persistent, then submit a ticket to AppXite Support.

 

4. Once Azure Plan is registered for RI purchases successfully, RI general configuration fields appear to select Industry and Datacenter. Select "Retrieve SKUs".

5. RI specific configuration fields appear to select SKU, billing cycle, term duration, quantity.

Browser search (Ctrl+F) can be used to facilitate selection of the needed SKU.

6. Select correct cycle, term and quantity. Options are loaded dynamically based on selected SKU.

7. Once configuration is defined, click "Retrieve Catalog Item". You will see precise Catalog Item which will be provisioned. This allows to verify price and selection of the desired SKU.

8. Click "Add to cart" and place order. Azure Reservations under Azure Plan are ordered with "Shared" scope. That can be changed later in Azure Portal.

 

WARNING! Azure RIs are normal offers and markup rules will apply as regularly. However, since RIs have InPrice equal to Retail Price, it is quite important to configure markups for them. Please consult this guide for creating markups.

 

Subscription management flow - Edit

Subscription displays form of configuration.

Azure Reservations are managed via Azure Portal. There are no changes possible from AppXite Platform currently.

 

Limitations

  • Subscription or it's configuration changes synchronization from Partner center under automated RI offers are currently unavailable.
  • Existing subscription can't be migrated under automated RI offers.
  • Exchanges, Renewals, Cancellations (refunds) are to be submitted via Azure Portal as a support ticket to Microsoft.
  • Scope changes are updated via Azure Portal.
  • Auto-renewals are not supported for reservations since they require new purchase.
