Resolving "Please enter a valid email" error in Azure Active Directory authentication

Appxite

Introduction

This article provides step-by-step guidance for resolving the "Please enter a valid email" authentication error that occurs when Azure Active Directory (AAD) tenant domains are not properly configured in the authentication solution. It covers the information required to submit support requests and explains how to locate Azure AD domain names in both Azure management portal and Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

In this article:

When users encounter a "Please enter a valid email" error during sign-in, it indicates that their Azure Active Directory (AAD) tenant domain has not been added to the authentication solution.

NOTE! This error specifically affects users attempting to authenticate with Work email (AAD Account) credentials and requires administrative intervention to resolve.

Understanding the Authentication Error

The authentication error appears when users select the Work email (AAD Account) option during login. The system displays "Please enter a valid email" in red text below the email input field, preventing successful authentication.

This occurs because the organization's Azure AD tenant domains have not been registered with the authentication system, blocking legitimate business email addresses from being recognized as valid credentials.

Required Information for Support Requests

To resolve this issue, you must submit a request to Support with the following comprehensive domain information:

Azure AD Domain Information Required

Main Azure AD Domain

  • Format: xxx.onmicrosoft.com
  • This is the primary tenant domain automatically assigned during Azure AD setup

Custom Domain Names

  • Alternative domain names connected to the main xxx.onmicrosoft.com Azure tenant domain
  • Examples: contoso.com, contoso.test.com, dev.contoso.eu
  • Include all verified custom domains associated with your organization
WARNING! Incomplete domain information will delay resolution. Ensure you provide all domains where users might authenticate.

Locating Azure AD Domain Names in Azure Portal

Navigate to the Azure management portal to retrieve your organization's complete domain list:

  1. Sign in to the Azure Portal with administrative credentials
  2. Select Azure Active Directory from the left navigation menu
  3. Click on Custom domain names in the management section
  4. Review the complete list of domains showing both:
    • Main domain: xxx.onmicrosoft.com (automatically created)
    • Custom domains: Organization-specific domains with verification status

The interface displays each domain's current status (Unverified/Available) and federation settings. Document all domains listed, regardless of their current verification status.

Finding Domain Information in Microsoft 365 Admin Center

Access domain information through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center as an alternative method:

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center
  2. Navigate to SetupDomains from the left sidebar
  3. Review the domains list showing:
    • Default .onmicrosoft.com domain
    • All custom domains with health status indicators
    • Domain purposes and DNS configuration status

Both portals provide the same domain information, allowing administrators to choose their preferred interface for gathering the required details.

Limitations

Domain Registration Requirements

  • Custom domains must be verified in Azure AD before authentication configuration
  • Changes to domain authentication settings require support ticket submission
  • Domain removal from Azure AD may impact existing user access and requires reconfiguration

Summary

The "Please enter a valid email" error in Azure Active Directory authentication occurs when tenant domains are not registered with the authentication solution. Resolution requires submitting a comprehensive support request including both the main Azure AD domain (xxx.onmicrosoft.com) and all custom domain names connected to the organization's tenant.
