Notification Settings – Distributor View

Appxite

Introduction

This article explains the Seller restriction feature available at the Distributor level of Notification Settings. It allows a Distributor Admin to lock specific notification events so that Sellers cannot change the Email or Webhook toggles for those events. The article also explains how a locked event is displayed to the Seller once it has been restricted.

This article is intended for Distributor Admins who manage notification settings for their Sellers.

In this article:

Accessing the Distributor notification settings

  1. Log in to the Platform as a Distributor Admin.
  2. Go to "Settings" -> "Notification Settings".
  3. Open the Events tab.
  4. In the Settings level dropdown, select Distributor

Once Distributor is selected, an information banner is displayed above the Events table:

"As a distributor, you can restrict sellers from changing notification settings for specific events. Locked events will display as read-only in the seller's notification settings."

Understanding the Seller restriction column

When the Settings level is set to Distributor, an additional column named Seller restriction is displayed between the Webhook column and the Actions column.

  • The column header displays a lock icon next to the label, and an information icon. Hovering over the information icon shows the tooltip: "Lock prevents sellers from changing this event's notification settings (both Email and Webhook channels)."
  • Each row shows a lock/unlock icon button together with a status badge: Locked or Editable.
  • The Locked badge uses an amber background and amber text, and the row itself is shown with an amber-tinted background. The Editable badge uses a neutral background.
  • The padlock icon is always shown alongside the badge, so the lock state is never communicated by colour alone.

Locking or unlocking a single event

  1. In the Seller restriction column, select the lock/unlock icon on the row of the event you want to change.
  2. Hovering over the icon shows "Lock: prevent sellers from editing" when the event is unlocked, or "Unlock: sellers can edit" when the event is locked.
  3. Selecting the icon once locks an unlocked event; selecting it again unlocks it.
NOTE! Locking an event does not change the Email or Webhook value the Seller currently has set. The existing values are preserved and simply frozen, they are not reset to the inherited or default values.

Locking or unlocking all events at once

Next to the Events heading, the label "Restrict all sellers from editing:" is followed by the Lock all events checkbox.

  • When every event is locked, the checkbox is checked.
  • When no event is locked, the checkbox is unchecked.
  • When some, but not all, events are locked, the checkbox shows an indeterminate (dash) state.
  • Checking the box locks all events in a single action; unchecking it unlocks all events in a single action.
Warning! Selecting Lock all events immediately locks every event for every Seller under this Distributor. Clearing it immediately unlocks every event. Both actions apply right away and cannot be undone in bulk, review the impact before confirming.

How locked events appear to Sellers

When a Seller opens their own Notification Settings and the Settings level shows Seller, the following applies to events locked by the Distributor:

  • An information banner is shown: "Some notification settings are locked by your distributor and cannot be changed. Contact your distributor to request changes to locked events."
  • The Seller restriction column is not shown at the Seller level, since it is only relevant to Distributor Admins.
  • Both the Email and Webhook toggles are shown disabled and cannot be changed by the Seller.
  • A small amber lock icon is displayed next to each disabled toggle to indicate why it cannot be edited.
  • In the Actions column, the option reads View instead of Edit. Selecting View opens the event details in a read-only mode.
  • Events that are not locked are unaffected: their toggles remain interactive and Actions still shows Edit.
NOTE! The lock always applies to the whole event row, it disables the Email and Webhook toggles together. It is not possible to lock one channel while leaving the other editable.

Permissions and audit log

Only users with the Distributor Admin role can lock or unlock events. If a Seller attempts to change a locked event through the interface or directly through the underlying request, the action is rejected.

Every lock and unlock action is recorded in the platform audit log, including the user who made the change, the Distributor's tenant, the event name, whether the event was locked or unlocked, and the date and time of the change.

Summary

Distributor Admins can use the Seller restriction column in Notification Settings to lock individual events, or use Lock all events to restrict every event in one action. Locked events are read-only for Sellers, keep their existing Email and Webhook values, and are clearly marked with a status badge, an amber row highlight, and a padlock icon so the lock state is always visible, not only through colour. All lock and unlock actions are saved immediately and recorded in the audit log.
