Introduction

This article explains what Price Source is and how it affects pricing in the Platform. Understanding Price Source will help you configure pricing correctly for your Customers based on your business model.

In this article:

What is price source

Price Source determines the base price used for calculating Customer Prices in the Platform. The Platform supports two Price Source options that define which price is used as the foundation for applying Markup or margin calculations.

Price source options

The Platform offers two Price Source options:

Cost Price: The price from the invoice provider. This is the wholesale price you pay to the vendor or your parent organization.

Suggested Retail Price: The recommended price from the vendor. This is the vendor's suggested selling price for end Customers.

Your choice of Price Source affects how Markup percentages are calculated and applied to determine final Customer Prices.

Price configuration by role

Price configuration capabilities vary depending on user role:

Seller Admin:

  • Can perform price management at the Catalog level
  • Can perform price management at the Subscription level

Account Manager:

  • Can perform price management only at the Subscription level

This role-based access ensures appropriate control over pricing strategies across different levels of your Organization.

Summary

Price Source determines the base price for calculating Customer Prices, with two options available: Cost Price (the wholesale price from the invoice provider) and Suggested Retail Price (the vendor's recommended selling price). The selected Price Source affects how Markup percentages are calculated and applied. Seller Admins can configure prices at both Catalog and Subscription levels, while Account Managers can only configure prices at the Subscription level, ensuring role-based control over pricing strategies.
